4. 10 Things To Love About Self-Compassion.

Why develop a self-compassion practice?

  1. It’s empowering! There’s no need to wait for someone to come to your rescue. You can give love to yourself.

  2. It’s practical. Self-compassion is a practice that can bring comfort right when you need it, in a moment of suffering.

  3. Self-compassion acts as a gateway from fearful thoughts that demand action to loving thoughts that acknowledge our pain and hold us in the moment.

  4. We can experience a transition from the Ego thought system to the Higher Self.

  5. It is always available. You can turn things around in any moment. Fall off the wagon? Get into an internal dialogue condemning yourself, the situation or others? That’s OK. Congratulations for noticing that! Go through the loving dialogue you prepared.

  6. It moves us away from isolation. In recognising that everyone suffers, we feel more connected. Connection is healing.

  7. It makes the moment safe. There is a lot of talk about being in the present moment but the present doesn’t always feel attractive in a moment of suffering. Self-compassion means we can turn an unloving moment into a loving moment. There is less need to flee to the past or plan the future.

  8. A self-compassion practice can be tailored to suit you. Are acts of service important to you? Book an appointment at the beauticians or go out for a meal. Are words of affirmation important? Then tell yourself what you wish another would say.

  9. It makes every moment more beautiful inside your mind, no matter what is going on in the world you see.

  10. We become less critical and judgemental of ourselves, situations and other people.
