The Art of Relaxation

Relaxation is a learnt skill.

There are many ways to relax the mind. You probably have several go to methods to help you relax.

Maybe you like to get out in nature, chat with friends, play with kids or a dog. Or maybe you like to listen to music, read, cook or get lost in crafts.

This article shares another active relaxation technique you may find useful - listening to guided audios and hypnosis tracks specifically designed to relax the mind.

Initially, it may seem difficult to listen to a relaxation audio.

Maybe you will face resistance.  Thoughts may come in like “I don’t like this person’s voice” or “This is a waste of time. I need to make the sandwiches.”

But don’t be deterred by this resistance. It’s normal. And if you are able to stick to the practice, to break through this resistance, you will start to enjoy the opportunity to unwind your mind.

My search down the YouTube rabbit hole, led me to audios specifically made for people experiencing a cancer. I ended up listening to guided audios that acknowledged the power of the mind to heal the body. Maybe you will prefer different relaxation audios? Maybe you are resistant to the belief that your mind can heal your body.  That’s OK.  It’s normal to be skeptical. I was skeptical too. But in the end I decided listening to a few videos wasn’t going to do any harm. If the Oncology team are chucking all sorts of surgery and chemicals at you...why not also utilise the power of your mind in your healing journey? Maybe you can reserve judgement? Or just listen to an audio because it makes you feel good without any expectation of outcome? If the videos I share don’t chime with you, take a look on YouTube to find the audios that work for you.

YouTube is full of free professional guided relaxation and hypnosis videos.

Here are some of the YouTube relaxation videos I enjoy.

I like Michael Sealey’s channel.

My 3 favourite videos are

Hypnosis: For Inner Peace, Micheal Sealey.

A 15 minute video to calm your mind.

Hypnosis: Cells Healing the Body, Michael Sealey.

A nice exercise to acknowledge the potential healing power of the mind.

Hypnosis: Cells Healing the Stomach, Micheal Sealey.

Good for any stomach/bowel discomfort you are experiencing post surgery.

I also came across Mira Kelly and listened to this video regularly.  While I had some resistance to Mira’s message initially, her affirmations would pop into my head regularly through the day and I always slept soundly after listening to her recording…

Hypnosis; Heal Cancer, Mira Kelly

A guided practice to acknowledge the healing power of the mind.
